Police statistics for September indicate that more girls fell victim to crimes against children than boys. According to a report, there were 117 recorded cases of crimes against children last month, with girls accounting for 90 of the victims and boys for 27. These incidents included 66% classified as sexual offenses, 29% as assault-related, and 5% as other types of offenses.
The report reveals that the Western and Central divisions experienced a decrease in crimes against children, with reductions of 47% and 29%, respectively. In contrast, other divisions saw an upward trend in these cases. Approximately 15% of the incidents were related to domestic situations, involving relationships such as parent-child and uncle-niece/nephew.
The rise in crimes against children has been attributed primarily to an increase in assault cases resulting in actual bodily harm, which rose from 18 to 26 cases.
