Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum’s Health Crisis Takes Center Stage in Court

Former Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum testified in his bail variation hearing today, detailing significant health issues, including severe chest pains and kidney problems. He is scheduled for a medical review in Singapore to address these concerns.

During questioning by State Counsel Unaisi Ratukalou, Sayed-Khaiyum revealed that a medical review slated for March 2024 had been denied. He expressed that he has been enduring intense pain and has found it difficult to move freely for the past week.

Sayed-Khaiyum has previously undergone heart bypass surgery and kidney surgery, but he continues to experience kidney enlargement, right kidney blockage, and ongoing chest pains. He indicated that his condition has worsened since March.

The hearing is set to resume on 9 August at noon for a ruling on the application.
