Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum Shares Health Struggles in Court Hearing

Former Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum testified today during his bail variation hearing, revealing that he is experiencing severe chest pains, discomfort in his right kidney, and kidney enlargement. He is scheduled for a heart and kidney evaluation in Singapore.

During cross-examination by State Counsel Unaisi Ratukalou, Sayed-Khaiyum stated that he was supposed to undergo a medical review in March 2024, but that request was denied. He shared that in the previous week, he had been suffering substantial pain, which hindered his mobility for up to three days.

Sayed-Khaiyum has previously undergone heart bypass and kidney surgeries; nevertheless, he continues to face issues such as kidney enlargement, blockage in the right kidney, chest pain, and pain in the right kidney. He noted that his condition has worsened since March and persists to this day.

The court has adjourned the case, with a ruling on the application set for August 9 at noon.
