Fisheries Minister Alita Bainivalu recently provided cooperative registrations to fishers’ groups from Namuana and Solovola villages in Kadavu, represented by the Wailiwa Cooperative Limited and Solovola Cooperative Limited. Along with these registrations, the groups received essential fishing gear, including nets and cooler boxes, which will aid their fishing activities.
Naomi Naio from the Solovola Women’s Club expressed gratitude for this timely support, emphasizing how it will enhance their livelihoods as families prepare for the festive season, a time when many extended families return home to celebrate together.
Additionally, the Rural Housing Assistance Programme has delivered housing materials worth over $35,000 to Waqavesi Nariu. This initiative aims to assist workers from the Vatukoula Gold Mine who have faced job losses.
Minister Bainivalu encouraged cooperatives to take advantage of growth opportunities and acknowledged the contributions of Deputy Prime Minister and Trades Minister Manoa Kamikamica, as well as Rural Development Minister Sakiasi Raisevu Ditoka, in making these initiatives a reality. She highlighted that these efforts are part of a broader strategy to strengthen and foster self-sustaining communities.
This support not only aims to uplift the local economy but also fosters a sense of community resilience, particularly as families come together during the festive season.
Overall, these initiatives reflect a commitment to the welfare of the community, promoting sustainable livelihoods and housing solutions for those in need.
