Aging Gracefully: Secrets of a 90-Year-Old Health Enthusiast

Rick Rickman, who is approaching his 90th birthday, believes that the quality of life at this age largely hinges on an individual’s character. Formerly a passionate golfer, Rickman has adapted to hobbies such as reading, writing, occasional painting, and enjoying drinks after his knee problems sidelined him from the sport.

“The change in my activities came when my knee gave out,” he explained. Rickman, who previously served as the secretary for the Fiji Golf Association, mentions that his foray into acrylic painting is more about expressing his own perspective rather than replicating reality, stating, “I paint what I see, probably not what you see in the mirror.” His artistic journey began early, having studied at the London School of Printing and Fine Arts before joining the Royal Air Force at the age of 15.

In terms of health, Rickman attributes his longevity to a careful diet focusing on protein and wine. He champions the benefits of a homemade remedy made with turmeric, ginger, and lemon, which he has used for over two decades to manage his health. “Turmeric is magical,” he asserts, emphasizing its role in keeping cancer at bay.

Rickman also warns about the dangers of aluminum toxicity in water, employing a triple-filtered water system at home. He enjoys high-quality meat, often purchasing a whole sirloin to properly age at home. He enjoys beef from local suppliers and notes that he prefers his meats aged for tenderness.

On the topic of vaccinations, Rickman expresses skepticism regarding their long-term effects, particularly the COVID vaccination, suggesting that he believes a significant number of vaccinated individuals may face health issues like myocarditis and blood clots in the coming years. He has lost friends whom he refers to as victims of “turbo cancer,” a term tied to conspiracy theories alleging a connection between vaccinations and rapid cancer development.

Despite having contracted COVID-19 in 2021, Rickman states that he has never received any vaccines, advocating instead for a balanced diet to strengthen immunity. He notes that he had more than enough vaccinations during his time in the Royal Air Force.

Looking ahead to his upcoming birthday in November, Rickman hopes to witness legal action against the Fiji National Provident Fund for historical grievances regarding pensioners. He expresses a desire to see justice served for those affected by the government’s decisions.

In addition to his health journey, Rickman shares his favorite places in Fiji, such as Nadarivatu, which he cherishes for its unspoiled beauty and potential for agriculture. He enjoys visiting Vuda Marina for its pleasant atmosphere and affordable dining options, particularly its $10 special lunches. For beverages, he prefers cocoa sweetened with honey rather than traditional coffee, which he abstains from.

Having traveled extensively through his work, Rickman finds it challenging to identify a new destination in Fiji for his bucket list, having already explored many corners of the country.
