At the age of 46, Ema Bi has made a remarkable impact by illustrating that determination transcends age. The mother of two and devoted nurse practitioner from Tuatua, Labasa, gained recognition as a leading figure at the TISI Sangam College of Nursing and Health Care Education graduation, where she received a Postgraduate Diploma in Nursing Leadership and Management.
During the ceremony, Ms. Bi distinguished herself by winning six prestigious awards, which included the title of Overall Academic Excellence. Her achievements encompassed high performance in critical subjects like Nursing Leadership in the 21st Century and Strategic Management in Nursing.
Reflecting on her personal journey, Ms. Bi acknowledged the challenges she faced following the loss of her husband, Ashad Ali, who was her strongest supporter. “He always encouraged me to pursue whatever course I wanted and dreamed of seeing me graduate,” she reminisced.
While juggling her postgraduate studies with a Master of Business Administration (MBA), Ms. Bi expressed gratitude towards her mentor, Selina Waqa Ledua of the Fiji National Council, alongside the steadfast support of her family and friends. She stated, “I keep reminding myself that this is not the end of the road. With a positive mindset, anything is possible.”
With 24 years of experience in nursing, Ms. Bi regards the profession as the best choice for making a meaningful difference in people’s lives. Her ultimate aspiration is to become a chief nurse, and she encourages others to pursue their dreams. “To mothers and widows, I say, never give up. Age is just a number, and God has given us one life to live. Make it count.”
