Transitioning from a science background to the fields of accounting and economics posed significant challenges for 21-year-old Sanskar Kapadia. However, his perseverance, along with the support from his peers and professors, led him to achieve the Most Outstanding Accounting and Finance Student (Department) Award 2024 at the University of Fiji School of Business and Economics. This recognition was celebrated during a recent ceremony in Lautoka.
Reflecting on his journey, Mr. Kapadia acknowledged the difficulties of adapting to a new discipline, admitting that some concepts initially posed challenges. Through dedication and effective time management, including working part-time while studying, he gradually gained confidence and learned to balance academic responsibilities with career aspirations. “These experiences taught me resilience and adaptability,” he stated.
Kamal Prasad, a fellow award recipient, shared her personal journey of overcoming barriers as well. Motivated by her mother’s encouragement, she faced financial difficulties, which often complicated her education. Yet, with support from her father and close friends, she persistently overcame her academic obstacles.
Fatima Aiyesha Siddeqa, who topped her class in 2021 at Nadi Muslim College, drew inspiration from the sacrifices made by her family, particularly her mother and grandmother. She emphasized the importance of leaving a legacy and taking pride in her family’s support throughout her academic journey. “Success is seeing my aunt, grandparents, and mother smile with pride at my accomplishments,” she expressed.
This group of students exemplifies the idea that despite facing challenges, determination, and support systems can lead to remarkable achievements. Their stories resonate with anyone striving for success, showcasing the importance of resilience, adaptability, and the impact of family and friends in one’s educational journey.
