Graduation is more than just an academic achievement; it symbolizes the culmination of years of effort, sacrifice, and personal growth. Joshika Lata’s journey exemplifies this reality as she rose from challenges to become the General Manager of the JP Bayly Trust, a charitable organization that provides essential support to those in need.

Starting her education in 1990 at the Frank Hilton School, which caters to students with disabilities, Ms. Lata faced significant obstacles due to a physical deformity in her arms. Her early years were marred by bullying, yet her resilience kept her spirits high. “Growing up in a poor family, I recognized the transformative power of education,” she noted, emphasizing how her graduation marked a life-changing moment.

After completing secondary education at DAV College in Nabua, Ms. Lata pursued a diploma in business management at the Fiji Institute of Technology, graduating in 2005. Her initial roles as a spare parts clerk and later an accounts clerk were stepping stones that prepared her for greater responsibilities. Inspired by her father, she furthered her education by earning a bachelor’s degree in accounting at FNU.

Joining the JP Bayly Trust in 2018 as an accounts clerk, her dedication led her to attain a postgraduate degree by 2020, upon which she was promoted to various roles, including board secretary and accountant. In a moment of profound joy during an April 2024 board meeting, Ms. Lata was appointed General Manager. “I was in tears when the announcement was made,” she recalled.

Ms. Lata’s commitment to the principles of education, experience, and exposure drives her to be a role model for others. “I can inspire new recruits at the trust and youths like me to strive for success, regardless of adversity,” she asserted. Her story is a powerful reminder that resilience and community support can lead to extraordinary achievements.
