Ana Yabakivou, an 18-year-old who faced challenges as a Year 12 dropout, has successfully graduated with a Certificate IV in Organic Agriculture from the Ministry of Youth’s Naleba Training Centre in Labasa. Despite not passing the Fiji Year 12 Certificate Examination (FY12CE) last year, her determination and resilience helped her to enroll in the Naleba Training Centre and pursue her studies.
Joining 33 other graduates, Ms. Yabakivou expressed her aspirations to continue her education by enrolling at either the Fiji National University (FNU) Koronivia campus or the University of the South Pacific to further her knowledge in agriculture. She remains optimistic about securing employment in the agricultural sector, fueled by her dream to support her family financially.
To celebrate her achievement, she invited her grandmother, Anasimeci Solokai, to the graduation ceremony. Ms. Solokai was filled with pride and joy, confidently believing that her granddaughter will succeed in her future endeavors. She emphasized the importance of family support and determination in overcoming obstacles.
Although Ms. Yabakivou faced the emotional difficulty of adjusting to life away from her family while living at the centre’s girls’ dormitory, she remained motivated to complete her education. Her experience highlights the challenges many students face but also serves as an inspiring reminder to never give up.
She encouraged others who may feel discouraged, urging them to recognize that numerous opportunities exist for personal growth and success.
This story exemplifies the power of perseverance, support from loved ones, and the belief that challenges can be transformed into stepping stones towards achieving life goals.
In summary, Ana Yabakivou has overcome setbacks to graduate in Organic Agriculture, aiming for a brighter future for herself and her family, and emphasizes the significance of resilience in the face of adversity.
