The delivery of a fiber boat and engine might appear minor to some, but for the students, parents, and teachers at Navesi Primary School in Udu Village, Totoya, Lau, it has immense significance.
This initiative was made possible through a visit by Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro to Yasayasa Moala, where he toured various schools accompanied by representatives from multiple ministries.
Notably, Radrodro is the first Education Minister to visit Totoya in more than 50 years.
Navesi Primary School’s head teacher, Seru Luvu, expressed deep emotion regarding the impact of the boat on the school. “It is long overdue. We have been requesting it for a long time, and receiving it now is just emotional. We no longer have to rely on others for a boat when we need to transport students to the health center,” he stated.
Luvu recounted the challenges they faced when requesting a boat in the past, often receiving harsh responses or told that they could only use a boat if it was free. “Today marks a memorable occasion as we will no longer face embarrassment in the future.”
He assured that the school would maintain the boat diligently to ensure it lasts a long time and noted that they have also received life jackets for the students.
Radrodro advised Luvu to ensure the boat is properly maintained and operated only by a licensed driver, emphasizing its designated purpose.
