Adi Litia Nailatikau Contemplates Political Future

Adi Litia Nailatikau is considering when to enter the political arena. Adi Litia is the daughter of former President and Speaker of Parliament Ratu Epeli Nailatikau. Yesterday, she served as the Speaker during the 2024 Women’s Mock Parliament session, a significant occasion.

Adi Litia is an associate lawyer at Law Solutions, a project manager for the Fiji and Solomon Islands Conciliation Programme Resources, and a member of the Pacific Women’s Mediators Technical Working Group.

“I hope to support strong women leaders because there are many in the country who have not been recognized or supported in recent years,” she said. “I don’t know if that’s my ultimate goal right now, but I am preparing to support any woman leader in that role, or myself if I ever step into it.”

This was her first time participating in such a mock session in parliament. Adi Litia credits her success to the guidance and support from her father, who had a prominent role in Parliament, and her mother, a lawyer, who encouraged her to excel.

“It’s been overwhelming but exciting and an honor to be here,” she said. “It’s a challenging role to manage the passion from all the women, but we have been preparing to respect each other and follow the Standing Orders, which many of us are newly acquainted with. I encourage young women to engage in this process, as Parliament is open to all and the decisions made here impact everyone in the country.”
