Adi Litia Nailatikau Considers Political Future: A Glimpse into Potential Leadership

Adi Litia Nailatikau is considering her entry into the political arena as she evaluates the best timing for such a move.

Adi Litia is the daughter of Ratu Epeli Nailatikau, the former President and Speaker of Parliament.

Yesterday, she took on the role of Speaker during the 2024 Women’s Mock Parliament session, marking a momentous occasion.

Adi Litia is an associate lawyer at Law Solutions, a project manager with the Fiji and Solomon Islands Conciliation Programme Resources, and a member of the Pacific Women’s Mediators Technical Working Group.

“I hope to support great women leadership because I know there are many in the country. It has not yet been identified or supported in the last few years,” she stated.

“I’m not sure if that’s my current aspiration, but I want to be prepared to support any woman leader in that role or to step into that role myself if needed.”

This mock session in Parliament was her first participation in such an event.

Adi Litia feels fortunate to have her father, with his significant role in Parliament, as a mentor, and her mother, a lawyer, who has always encouraged her to strive for excellence.

“It’s been overwhelming but exciting and an honor to be here,” she remarked.

“It’s a challenging role to manage the passion from all the women, but we have prepared well to be respectful and follow the Standing Orders, which many of us have just been introduced to in the last few days. I encourage any young women to take this opportunity. Parliament is open to all of us, and the decisions made here impact everyone in the country.”
