The Naitasiri Provincial Council meeting held in Tamavua Village, Suva, highlighted the ongoing shortage of primary school teachers as a significant concern for the Ministry of Education. Education Minister Aseri Radrodro addressed this issue, acknowledging it as a challenge faced by various schools in the province. He emphasized the ministry’s efforts to resolve the problem, which he described as a legacy issue inherited by the Coalition Government.
Radrodro mentioned that steps are being taken to recruit secondary school teacher graduates willing to teach at the primary level. He also noted the specific demand for teachers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) subjects and stated that the ministry is collaborating with the Tertiary Scholarship and Loans Board (TSLS) to enhance the recruitment of teacher trainees in the upcoming year.
He encouraged students across the province to aspire to great achievements, urging them to look beyond the classroom and pursue their goals with confidence. “Opportunities are always available, so don’t doubt yourself as you work towards achieving your goals,” Radrodro advised, reminding them to keep their faith a priority.
