ACP Driu Calms Fears Over High-Profile Releases

The Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, has assured the public regarding their safety amidst recent concerns following the release of George Speight, Shane Stevens, and several others who were granted a Presidential pardon this week.

Mr. Driu emphasized that the public can remain calm, stating that the situation in the country is stable and normal. He assured citizens that there is no threat and that the circumstances are manageable.

“The release followed thorough judicial and correctional processes through the Mercy Commission and the president,” he noted.

Police are actively monitoring the situation, and Mr. Driu reported no significant concerns from the public, only inquiries from international media sources, which he assured were met with confirmation that the area remains tranquil.

He cautioned the public against taking matters into their own hands, as some individuals might exploit the situation to pursue their own agendas.

Furthermore, Mr. Driu warned those spreading speculation on social media about potential unrest linked to Mr. Speight’s release. He stated that anyone attempting to incite fear or breach the peace would face strict enforcement of the law.

“No one is above the law, and we will take action against those who seek to manipulate this situation,” he affirmed.
