A Warrior in the Market: Simran Chandra’s Inspiring Battle Against Cancer

Simran Chandra, a 43-year-old market vendor from Tavakubu, has constructed a thriving business over the past eight years while simultaneously fighting breast cancer, all while managing two market stalls.

Despite her health challenges, Ms. Chandra persists in her entrepreneurial endeavors with the unwavering support of her family. Her journey, which began with selling pineapples on the streets, has transformed her into a notable figure within the community of dedicated women vendors.

Throughout her battle with breast cancer, she has faced difficulties but remains undeterred. “My family has been my support system through my cancer treatment. My mum and my son have always stood by my side,” she shared.

Beginning her business eight years ago by selling pineapples, she has since evolved into a respected market vendor in Lautoka. Ms. Chandra highlights the camaraderie among the women vendors, stating, “All the women I’ve met here are very hardworking. We’ve all started from scratch and built something we can be proud of.”
