Families from Koro in Levuka, Lomaiviti, gathered with excitement and anticipation as they awaited the arrival of the MV Captain Inoke, a vessel from Goundar Shipping Limited. This occasion held special significance, particularly for the Ratotodro family, as the ship was named in memory of their late father, Captain Inoke Ratotodro.
Melaia Ratotodro, the eldest daughter of Captain Ratotodro, was overwhelmed with emotion as the ship docked at Port Mua-i-Walu, remembering and honoring her father. “Our dad, who served Goundar Shipping Limited for 30 years, passed away last October, and it is heartwarming to see this vessel named after him,” she expressed. She went on to share her gratitude towards the company for this thoughtful tribute, emphasizing her father’s dedication and hard work.
George Goundar, the managing director of Goundar Shipping, reflected on the deep friendship he shared with Mr. Ratotodro, stating he was instrumental in the company’s inception in 2011. “He provided invaluable advice and had extensive knowledge of the Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji, effectively managing the operational aspects of the company,” Goundar noted, highlighting Mr. Ratotodro’s significant contributions.
The MV Captain Inoke is captained by Sainimere Qutonilaba, a dedicated team member who began her journey with Goundar Shipping in 2011 and has successfully helped bring new vessels to the fleet from overseas.
A traditional ceremony was conducted in honor of the ship before the guests embarked on a tour. This event not only celebrates the memory of a beloved figure but also represents the strong bonds that hold together the maritime community in Fiji.
This heartfelt occasion serves as a reminder of the legacy of hard work, friendship, and respect that shape the maritime industry, encouraging others to appreciate the values instilled by those who have come before.
