A Toast to 50 Years: The Legendary Bartender of Nausori Club Retires

Rajbahadur Singh, affectionately known as Ram Singh, is a familiar face at the Nausori Club, where he has served drinks for the past 50 years. The 70-year-old, a resident of Buiduna near Nausori, concluded his bartending career in late July, leaving behind a legacy that resonates deeply with clubgoers.

Ram began his journey at the Nausori Club on July 30, 1974, stepping in as a cleaner at just 20 years of age. After six months, he transitioned to bartending, where he thrived in the welcoming atmosphere of the club, earning the affection of patrons during his lengthy tenure.

“For five decades, I started my day at 9 a.m. and often worked late into the night,” Ram recounted. His responsibilities extended beyond bartending to food service, embodying the dedication that characterized his career.

Ram’s interactions spanned a wide range of clientele, from government officials to business leaders. He served distinguished guests, including the late Ratu Sir Kamisese Mara and other prominent figures. His experience taught him invaluable lessons about service and hospitality, which became integral to his role.

After years of service, Ram has chosen to step back but expresses gratitude for the supportive environment fostered by the club’s leadership, including current president Ambika Nand and secretary Uma Kant Patel. Ram reflects fondly on his time with the club, stating, “I’m very proud to have been part of the Nausori Club family.”

As he embarks on this new chapter, Ram plans to cultivate a small garden at home, assisted by neighbors. While he will miss the vibrant atmosphere of the bar, he looks forward to spending more time with his family and cherishing the memories he has made.

Ram’s story serves as a reminder that there are no boundaries to what one can achieve, even into their later years. His dedication and passion for his work have left an indelible mark on the Nausori Club and its patrons.
