Reverend Simione Tugi has called for assistance following his observations at a recent crusade featuring the Australian gospel band Planetshakers, which attracted thousands of young attendees at Churchill Park in Lautoka. The Fiji Council of Churches (FCC), of which Rev. Tugi is the general secretary, collaborated with Planetshakers for this event.
Rev. Tugi expressed that this was his first experience witnessing such a large gathering of youth at a crusade. He noted, “Thousands of them gave their lives to the Lord. These young people came from various denominations and ethnic backgrounds. It really touches my heart to see their hunger for God.”
He highlighted that many of these young individuals chose to forego nightlife and parties over the three-night event to participate in the crusade. He raised a critical question, asking, “Why are we not making an impact on these young people?”, urging a need for help.
He emphasized the importance of collaboration among the church, the government, and the community to address serious issues like drug addiction, HIV, sexual abuse, and suicide affecting the youth today. Rev. Tugi believes that evangelistic teams, such as Planetshakers, can play a vital role in this effort.
Mereoni Tinaitukana from Goulding Developments attended the crusade and shared her thoughts, stating that her experience was overwhelming and highlighted the powerful messages delivered. She expressed a desire for the younger generation in Fiji to reconnect with their faith through events like praise festivals and church crusades, which could help combat drug addiction.
The next crusade is scheduled for Albert Park in Suva on August 25, starting at 3 PM.
