The Matua Programme at Nabua Secondary School, located just outside Suva, is making a remarkable difference in the lives of its students. This program serves as a valuable opportunity for young individuals who have previously dropped out of school and were unable to finish their high school education due to various personal circumstances. By providing a second chance, the program effectively gives these students a new outlook on life.
Nabua Secondary School stands out as the only educational institution in Fiji that offers this initiative. Over the past two decades, the Matua Programme has welcomed hundreds of adult learners, enabling them to complete their secondary education and subsequently pursue higher education.
Recently, more than 42 students celebrated their graduation from the program. One of the graduates, Lusiana Turaga, expressed how the program ignited her passion for education and inspired her to achieve her academic aspirations.
Ms. Turaga noted the enriching diversity among the participants, which provided a fresh perspective. She emphasized the importance of social inclusion for adult learners, recognizing their contributions to society and ensuring they remain connected and engaged within their communities.
Moreover, she highlighted how the program contributes to financial stability and access to various services, leading to improved quality of life for graduates. By progressing through the program, students strive to live with dignity and comfort, aspiring to become better versions of themselves.
This initiative holds hope for many, showcasing how education can transform lives, foster community connections, and enhance overall well-being for those who seek to improve their futures.
