A People-Driven Vision: Fiji’s National Development Plan Unveiled

The National Development Plan for 2025-2029 has been termed the “people’s plan,” the outcome of comprehensive consultations with citizens from various backgrounds.

During the plan’s launch in Suva, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Professor Biman Prasad emphasized that over 21,000 individuals were involved in the consultation process, including representatives from civil society organizations, industry groups, the disciplined forces, academia, students, and religious organizations. This extensive engagement aimed to capture the public’s concerns and gather their insights and suggestions.

Prof. Prasad stated, “This plan, therefore, embodies the aspirations of our people, reflecting their concerns and desires.” He added that the primary goal of the initiative is to enhance social well-being and foster sustainable prosperity for the population.

“It is essential that everyone experiences improvement in their quality of life, with no one feeling deprived or left behind,” he noted.

He also mentioned that the Coalition Government is establishing clear targets for achievements over the next three to five years. “In the initial three years, our focus will be on tackling critical issues that require urgent attention, or what we refer to as ‘getting the basics right.’”

This will involve addressing essential needs such as clean drinking water, improving road and drainage systems, enhancing healthcare facilities, and providing affordable housing and school infrastructure in the most affected areas.

Further details on this topic will be provided in the major bulletin at 6 PM on Fiji One.
