The Civic Centre in Suva became a lively venue for the celebration of the Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival, also known as the Moon Festival, on Tuesday. This event, organized by the Chinese community in Fiji, showcased a variety of captivating performances that fostered cultural exchange and friendship.
Observed on the 14th day of the 8th month in the traditional Chinese lunar calendar, the Mid-Autumn Festival is a significant time for family gatherings and expressing gratitude for the harvest. With the full moon shining brightly, families came together, physically or in spirit, to celebrate its beauty and participate in traditional customs. The event was co-hosted by the Chinese Embassy in Fiji, the Chinese Cultural Centre, and Hubei Province’s Department of Culture and Tourism, forming part of the “Mid-Autumn Festival – A Moon to Remember” initiative. Titled “Experience Hubei’s Performance in Fiji – A Melodious Bridge of Friendship,” the evening featured performances from both local and international artists, including 17 performers from Fiji. A highlight of the performances was the mesmerizing dragon boat tune by female artist Ruan Guanghui, known for her musical talent.
