The newly inaugurated Kavanagasau Sanatan Dharm Kindergarten, valued at $26,000, is set to become a central facility for early learning and play for children in Kavanagasau and nearby areas. This state-of-the-art center was officially opened earlier this month, thanks to a generous contribution from the Tappoo Group of Companies.

Situated approximately 18 kilometers from Sigatoka Town, the kindergarten enhances the school’s enrollment, which already includes primary education for Years One to Eight and secondary education for Years Nine to Thirteen. Jitendra Kumar, the head of the school, expressed sincere appreciation for the Tappoo Group during the opening ceremony and underscored the importance of the play center in nurturing future generations. He remarked that learning occurs not only within classroom walls but also in environments that foster creativity and exploration.

“This early childhood education playcenter marks a pivotal development for quality education in the Nadroga Navosa district,” Mr. Kumar stated.

The facility also serves as a tribute to the late Tappoo Kanji, who was a pioneering student at the school and an influential figure in the Tappoo family legacy. During the ceremony, Kanti Tappoo, chairperson of the Tappoo Group, shared a heartfelt narrative about his family’s longstanding connection to the school, tracing back to his father’s enrollment in 1933.

“This playcenter goes beyond mere donations; it symbolizes our family’s deep bond with this community and the vital role of early education,” he expressed. The Tappoo Group’s commitment to the institution is evident through various initiatives, including a $12,500 donation for Information Technology equipment last year to enhance the school’s computer lab. This year, the goal was to improve the learning environment for younger students, solidifying their ongoing support for the rural school.

Janice Nath, the Education Officer for Nadroga Navosa, praised the Tappoo Group for their shared vision of cultivating lifelong learners, stating, “This playcenter will benefit not only Kavanagasau’s children but also embody the Ministry of Education’s commitment to fostering innovation and quality education. Early childhood education forms the cornerstone for future learning, and this facility will create a conducive, student-friendly environment.”

The Kavanagasau Kindergarten ECE playcenter is anticipated to significantly impact its young students by providing opportunities for social, emotional, and physical growth within a supportive environment. With backing from the Tappoo Group, the school management committee, and the Ministry of Education, the playcenter is poised to be a fundamental resource for community education.

The celebration concluded with the unveiling of a commemorative plaque, representing the collaborative efforts behind this project and the community’s commitment to ensuring a strong foundation for its children.

In a related achievement, the Kavanagasau Sanatan Dharm Primary School celebrated a 100% pass rate in last year’s Fiji Eighth Year Examination, marking two consecutive years of flawless results. Mr. Kumar attributed this success to the dedication of teachers and parents working in harmony. Lice Vuliasi, a diligent student from the Kavanagasau settlement, achieved the highest marks. He emphasized the school’s commitment to continued hard work while seeking ongoing parental support. Mr. Kumar noted that the school has examined the areas for improvement from the previous year and is focused on maintaining high academic standards again this year.
