The Kavanagasau Sanatan Dharm Kindergarten, a cutting-edge facility valued at $26,000, has been inaugurated as a center for early learning and play for children in Kavanagasau and neighboring communities. The opening of the kindergarten earlier this month was made possible through the generous support of the Tappoo Group of Companies.

Situated approximately 18 kilometers from Sigatoka Town, this new facility enhances the school’s offerings, which include primary education for Years One to Eight, as well as secondary education for Years Nine to Thirteen. Jitendra Kumar, the head of the school, expressed his heartfelt appreciation to the Tappoo Group during the opening event, acknowledging the significance of the play centre in nurturing future generations. He underscored that education extends beyond traditional classrooms, promoting creativity and exploration.

Mr. Kumar noted that this Early Childhood Education (ECE) play centre represents a significant advancement for quality education in the Nadroga Navosa education district, stating, “This state-of-the-art facility will serve as a hub for early learning and play for children from Kavanagasau and surrounding communities.”

The play centre honors the late Tappoo Kanji, an esteemed former student and a key figure in the Tappoo family’s legacy. At the ceremony, Kanti Tappoo, chairperson of the Tappoo Group, shared his family’s long-standing connection to the school, which dates back to his father’s enrollment in 1933. “This playcentre is not just a donation—it is a symbol of our family’s attachment to this community and a testament to the importance of early education,” Mr. Tappoo remarked.

The Tappoo Group’s involvement with the school is not limited to the new play centre; last year, they donated $12,500 worth of Information Technology equipment to enhance the school’s computer lab. Their ongoing commitment aims to improve the educational environment for the youngest students.

Janice Nath, the Education Officer for Nadroga Navosa, commended the Tappoo Group for their shared vision of developing lifelong learners. She mentioned that the playcentre will benefit the children of Kavanagasau and aligns with the Ministry of Education’s objectives to promote innovation and quality education. “Early childhood education is the foundation upon which future learning is built, and this facility will provide a conducive and student-friendly environment,” Ms. Nath added.

The Kavanagasau Kindergarten ECE play centre is expected to play a transformative role in the lives of its young students, fostering their social, emotional, and physical development in a supportive setting. With backing from the Tappoo Group, the school management committee, and the Ministry of Education, the playcentre is set to become a key element of community education. The event concluded with the unveiling of a commemorative plaque, symbolizing the collaborative efforts behind this project and the community’s commitment to providing quality education for children.

In related news, Kavanagasau Sanatan Dharam Primary School celebrated a remarkable achievement with a 100 percent pass rate in last year’s Fiji Eighth Year Examination, marking a consecutive success. Mr. Kumar attributed this accomplishment to the combined dedication of teachers and parents. Lice Vuliasi, a diligent student from Kavanagasau settlement, achieved the highest score. He emphasized the importance of parental support in the school’s pursuit of academic excellence. Mr. Kumar stated that the school has identified areas for improvement from 2023 and is committed to maintaining high-quality results in the upcoming examinations.
