Manaini Lesavua, a 32-year-old from Nawaka, Nadi, shared an emotionally charged moment as she reflected on her mother’s sacrifices for her education while managing a household of four young children. Lesavua graduated with a Trade Diploma in Baking and Patisserie from the Fiji National University College of Humanities, a milestone she celebrated alongside approximately 200 fellow graduates at the Vodafone Arena in Suva.
In a heartfelt speech, she expressed her gratitude towards her mother for the relentless support throughout her academic journey. “Thank you, mum, for the journey. I know it was hard for you, giving me the opportunity to go to school, and today I have harvested the fruit of hard work,” she said, acknowledging the challenges of balancing motherhood with the demands of her studies.
Lesavua emphasized that her achievements are the result of collective support, particularly from her husband who took on household responsibilities after the birth of their second child. Currently working as a security officer with Wormald Fire and Security, she is now setting her sights on pursuing a bachelor’s degree in tourism.
Her message to young people was one of resilience and determination, reminding her siblings and peers that perseverance pays off and that aspirations should never be limited. She acknowledged the difficulties of juggling her education and parenting but expressed deep appreciation for the support system surrounding her.
Delighted yet humble, Manaini Lesavua’s journey serves as an inspiring beacon of hope, illustrating that with hard work and unwavering support from loved ones, achieving one’s dreams is within reach, no matter the challenges faced along the way.
