A Lifeline for Learning: Udu Village Students Celebrate Historic Boat Donation

The arrival of a fiber boat and engine may seem minor to some, but for the students, parents, and educators of Navesi Primary School in Udu Village, Totoya, Lau, it holds great significance.

This development occurred during a visit by Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro to Yasayasa Moala, where he toured schools alongside representatives from various ministries.

Notably, Mr. Radrodro is the first Minister for Education to visit Totoya in over 50 years. Head teacher Seru Luvu expressed his emotions when discussing the importance of the boat for the school.

“It is long overdue. We have been asking for it for a long time, and finally receiving it is emotional. Now we no longer have to rely on others for a boat to transport students to the health center,” Mr. Luvu stated.

He shared past experiences where requests for a boat were met with harsh responses or conditions. “Today will remain a memorable day for us, as we will no longer face embarrassment in the future. We will ensure that this boat is well-maintained for longevity, and we have even received life jackets for the students.”

Mr. Radrodro advised Mr. Luvu to ensure the boat is properly cared for, highlighting that it should only be operated by a licensed boat driver and used for its intended purpose.
