The book “The Road to Parliament,” which chronicles the personal and political experiences of former National Federation Party leader Harish Sharma, was launched at Jai Narayan College yesterday.
Mr. Sharma, who also held positions as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Housing, Urban Development, and Information after the 1987 General Elections, was honored during the event.
Current NFP leader and Deputy Prime Minister Professor Biman Prasad praised Mr. Sharma, calling him “an embodiment of wisdom, authority, goodwill, and a shining example of what can be achieved through political morality, transparency, and accountability.”
Prof. Prasad noted the achievement of starting to write memoirs at nearly 90 years of age as a remarkable feat, highlighting Mr. Sharma’s exceptional memory and ability to recall significant events and activities.
“The Road to Parliament – A glimpse into the life of Hon Harish C Sharma – reflects the life of a man characterized by humility, kindness, integrity, and honesty,” said Prof. Prasad.
He spoke about Mr. Sharma’s challenging childhood, which included losing his biological mother at a young age. Prof. Prasad emphasized that despite such hardships, Mr. Sharma experienced resilience and kindness, overcoming adversity during his school years, where he was treated poorly by a family he served.
“The true worth of a person is measured by how they respond to challenges. Mr. Sharma consistently rose to such challenges, embodying his remarkable character,” he added.
Prof. Prasad concluded by stating that “The Road to Parliament” is a significant contribution to Mr. Sharma’s legacy.
