A Historic Visit: Education Minister Delivers Lifeline to Remote School

The arrival of a fiber boat and engine may seem minor to some, but for the students, parents, and teachers at Navesi Primary School in Udu Village, Totoya, Lau, it holds immense significance.

This achievement came about during a visit from the Minister for Education, Aseri Radrodro, who traveled to Yasayasa Moala to engage with local schools, accompanied by representatives from various ministries.

Remarkably, Mr. Radrodro is the first Minister for Education to visit Totoya in over five decades.

Head teacher Seru Luvu shared his emotional response when discussing the boat’s importance to the school. “This has been a long time coming. We have requested it for ages, and receiving it now is truly moving. We won’t have to rely on others for a boat when we need to transport students to the health center,” Mr. Luvu expressed.

He recounted previous instances when requests for a boat were met with harshness or dismissive comments, stating, “There were times we asked for a boat and were told that if it were free, we could use it. Today will be a memorable day because we will avoid any future embarrassment.”

Mr. Luvu emphasized the commitment to maintaining the boat in good condition to ensure its longevity and mentioned that life jackets for the students have also been provided.

Mr. Radrodro urged Mr. Luvu to care for the boat properly, highlighting the importance of using a licensed boat driver and adhering to the intended purpose of the donation.
