The arrival of a fiber boat and engine may seem trivial to some, but for the students, parents, and teachers of Navesi Primary School in Udu Village, Totoya, Lau, it is a monumental achievement.
This initiative became a reality when Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro made a visit to Yasayasa Moala to tour local schools. He was joined by representatives from various government ministries during the visit.
Mr. Radrodro made history as the first Minister for Education to visit Totoya in over 50 years. The head teacher of Navesi Primary School, Seru Luvu, expressed deep emotions when discussing the importance of the boat for the school.
“It’s long overdue. We have been requesting it for a significant time, and receiving it today is incredibly moving. We no longer have to rely on others for a boat to take students to the health center,” Mr. Luvu shared.
“There have been instances when we asked for a boat, and we were met with harsh responses or told that we could use it if it were free. Today marks a significant day for us because we will no longer experience embarrassment in the future.
“We will take care of this boat to ensure its longevity. We have also received life jackets for the students.”
Mr. Radrodro reminded Mr. Luvu to maintain the boat properly and to have only a licensed driver operate it, emphasizing that the boat should be used for its designated purpose.
