The Minister for Women, Children and Social Protection, Sashi Kiran, recently honored the memory of Semi Bukarau, a senior welfare officer in her ministry who passed away last week after a brief illness. Minister Kiran, accompanied by her ministry’s team, helped to escort Mr. Bukarau on his final journey home.
Expressing her sorrow, Ms. Kiran said, “It’s a heartbreaking farewell for an officer who served our people well. Mr. Bukarau’s contributions to the welfare sector were significant, and the ministry is deeply grateful for his dedication and commitment. His passing is a loss felt across the communities he served.”
Mr. Bukarau, who was 47 years old, dedicated 27 years of his life to the Fiji Civil Service, with 24 of those years spent as a welfare officer in the Ministry of Women, Children and Social Protection. The delegation accompanying Ms. Kiran included her Permanent Secretary, Eseta Nadakuitavuki, Commissioner Central, Josefa Navuku, and other ministry staff members.
This tribute reflects the profound impact Mr. Bukarau had on his community and highlights the essential role that dedicated public servants play in enhancing the welfare of society. It serves as a reminder of the importance of compassion and commitment in public service, and how one’s contributions can leave a lasting legacy.
In a time of mourning, the community can take solace in the positive change Mr. Bukarau fostered during his career and can strive to carry forward his legacy of service and dedication.
