A 30-year-old mother, Monika Adimaikama, expressed her excitement as she prepares to embark on a significant journey with her one-month-old daughter, Rose Maria Waqamate. Monika, along with 106 other families, is set to be reunited with their loved ones working in Australia through the Pacific Australia Labour Mobility (PALM) scheme. This program initiated by the Australian government aims to bring together families of Fijian workers currently employed in Australia.
Monika’s emotional experience comes after months of being apart from her husband, Dermot, who is employed in New South Wales. She reflected on the challenges they faced during the visa process, noting that her previous tourist visa required her to return to Fiji while waiting for the Partner Visa to facilitate the reunion. Now, she is filled with joy at the thought of reuniting with her husband and establishing their life together in Australia.
Grateful for the support from the Australian government, Monika emphasized the importance of family unity and expressed her eagerness to contribute to her family’s well-being by seeking employment once they are together. She highlighted the significance of her child growing up with both parents in her life, marking this Christmas as a memorable milestone for her family.
This initiative not only brings families together but also offers hope for a brighter future as they navigate new opportunities in Australia. Such programs demonstrate compassion and commitment to enhancing the lives of workers and their families, fostering unity and support within the community.
In summary, Monika and the other families are looking forward to a new chapter in their lives, filled with hope, challenges, and the joy of family reunification.
