A Heartfelt Return: Australian Couple Reunites with Fiji’s Rich Memories

An Australian couple, Owen Twist and his wife Christine, are delighted to have returned to Fiji. They were among over 2,000 passengers on a P&O Cruises Australia cruise ship that docked in Lautoka on Monday. The couple previously lived in Fiji during the early 1970s while serving the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Suva.

“It feels so good to be back in Fiji. We were hoping to meet some of our local friends that we have contacted through social media,” Mr. Twist remarked. He originally came to Fiji for two years but ended up staying for nine due to his fondness for the local people. “Fiji has always held a special place in our hearts,” he added.

Their daughters, both nurses, also spent part of their childhood in Fiji, making the family’s return visit particularly special. The couple expressed their appreciation for the lasting relationships they formed during their time in Fiji.

To commemorate their visit, they purchased Fijian souvenirs, including handicrafts from woodcarver Jone Sito. After Lautoka, the cruise ship is scheduled to continue its journey to Taveuni before returning to Sydney.
