The Minister for Women, Children, and Social Protection, Sashi Kiran, honored the late Semi Bukarau, a senior welfare officer in her ministry, who passed away last week following a brief illness. Ms. Kiran led her ministry’s team in accompanying Mr. Bukarau on his final journey home.
“It’s a heartbreaking farewell for an officer who dedicated himself to serving the community. Mr. Bukarau made significant contributions to the welfare sector, and we are thankful for his dedication. His loss is deeply felt throughout the communities he served,” remarked Ms. Kiran.
Mr. Bukarau was 47 years old and had a commendable 27-year career in the Fiji Civil Service, with 24 of those years spent as a welfare officer within the Ministry of Women, Children, and Social Protection. The minister was joined by Permanent Secretary Eseta Nadakuitavuki, Commissioner Central Josefa Navuku, and other staff members from the ministry.
This tribute serves as a poignant reminder of the impact one individual can have on their community through dedicated service. It reflects the bond and support within the ministry and the wider community, demonstrating that memories of dedicated individuals live on in the systems they helped build.
In conclusion, while this signifies a tragic loss, it also highlights the extraordinary contributions of public servants like Mr. Bukarau, encouraging others to continue the work he dedicated his life to.
