A Daughter’s Gratitude: How a Taxi Driver Made Dreams Come True

Zahara Buksh expresses deep gratitude towards her father, Taufeek Buksh, for his unwavering support and sacrifices that paved the way for her academic achievements. The 25-year-old recently graduated with a Bachelor of Laws from the University of the South Pacific. She acknowledged her father, who has been a taxi driver for many years, for his commitment to providing the best education for her and her sibling, despite facing numerous challenges, including losing his father at a young age and financial difficulties.

Zahara also recognized the contributions of her mother, Sunila Devi, a stay-at-home parent who made significant sacrifices for the family’s future. “I got this passion from my father because he wanted to be a lawyer as well, and his family is full of lawyers. I’m doing this for them,” she stated. She noted her father’s role as the family’s sole breadwinner, emphasizing his determination to enable his children to succeed.

Looking to the future, Ms. Buksh aspires to enter public prosecution, driven by her passion for criminology and her desire to effect positive change in the justice system. Zahara was one of 1,147 students who graduated from USP this week, with women comprising 61 percent of the overall graduates from all three sessions.
