A Daughter’s Gratitude: How a Father’s Sacrifices Shaped a Lawyer’s Dream

Zahara Buksh expresses deep gratitude towards her father, Taufeek Buksh, for the sacrifices he made to support her education. The 25-year-old recently graduated with a Bachelor of Laws from the University of the South Pacific. She credited her father, a longtime taxi driver, for ensuring she had access to quality education, alongside the support of her mother, Sunila Devi, who dedicated herself to homemaking and their family’s well-being.

“My father aspired to be a lawyer himself and comes from a family of lawyers. My journey is for them,” Zahara shared. She highlighted her father’s role as the family’s sole income provider, noting that despite facing personal and financial challenges, he remained committed to his children’s educational pursuits.

Zahara aims to pursue a career in public prosecution, driven by her passion for criminology and a desire to influence the justice system positively. She was among 1,147 graduates from USP this week, with women making up 61 percent of the graduating class across three sessions.
