A Daughter’s Gratitude: How a Father’s Sacrifices Shaped a Lawyer’s Dream

Zahara Buksh expressed deep gratitude to her father, Taufeek Buksh, for his unwavering support and sacrifices that allowed her to achieve her academic goals. The 25-year-old recently graduated with a Bachelor of Laws from the University of the South Pacific. She highlighted her father’s career as a taxi driver and his dedication to providing a quality education for his children, despite the challenges they faced, including the loss of his own father and financial difficulties.

Zahara also recognized her mother, Sunila Devi, a stay-at-home mom, for her contributions to their family’s welfare and her commitment to securing a better future for her children. She revealed that her inspiration to pursue a legal career stems from her father’s wishes, as he had aspired to be a lawyer and comes from a family of legal professionals.

“My father is the sole breadwinner, and my mum never worked, but he made everything possible for his two kids,” Zahara shared. Looking ahead, she expressed her ambition to enter public prosecution, driven by her passion for criminology and a desire to impact the justice system positively.

Zahara was among 1,147 graduates at the University of the South Pacific’s recent graduation ceremony, in which 61 percent of the graduates across all sessions were women.
