Receiving a fiber boat and engine may appear minor to some, but it holds great significance for the students, parents, and teachers of Navesi Primary School in Udu Village, Totoya, Lau. This occasion was made possible by a visit from the Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro to Yasayasa Moala, where he toured local schools alongside representatives from various ministries.
Mr. Radrodro’s visit marked the first time in over 50 years that a Minister for Education has come to Totoya. The head teacher of Navesi Primary School, Seru Luvu, expressed deep emotions regarding the importance of the boat for the school. “It is long overdue. We have been requesting it for a long time, and to finally receive it is just emotional. Now we don’t have to rely on others for a boat when we need to transport students to the health center,” Mr. Luvu stated.
He recalled past experiences where requests for a boat were met with harsh responses or stipulations about fees. “Today is a day we will always remember because we will no longer face embarrassment in the future. We will ensure that this boat is kept in good condition so that it lasts a long time. We have even received life jackets for the students.”
Mr. Radrodro advised Mr. Luvu to maintain the boat properly and to ensure that only a licensed boat driver operates it, emphasizing that it should be used for the purpose for which it was donated.
