PROJECT Bula Mai (PBM) has donated a replica cheque of $53,000 to the Fiji Cancer Society (FCS) in conjunction with the return of the Style Fiji Fashion and Entertainment Show for its 13th edition.
The cheque was presented by PBM trustees Marlene Vuniwaqa and Zelda Thomas to Belinda Chan, CEO of the Fiji Cancer Society, who expressed deep appreciation for PBM’s ongoing support. Chan remarked, “We are eternally grateful and appreciative to Marlene and Zelda and the team for the love and support towards the work that we do.”
She highlighted that the society relies heavily on the generosity of partners like Style Fiji and PBM to provide assistance to cancer patients. The funds will be utilized to enhance services in Western Fiji, where the Society encounters obstacles in visibility and outreach. Although FCS operates an office in Lautoka, many individuals in the area remain unaware of its services.
The financial support will aid in improving cancer awareness initiatives and offer essential assistance, including guidance through the health system and access to medications. Chan noted that while the Society’s efforts are significant, there is still a pressing need for greater support and visibility to effectively reach over 300 individuals across Fiji’s central, western, and northern divisions.
The funds were raised through PBM’s annual entertainment show, which aims to financially support cancer organizations. Marlene Vuniwaqa announced that this year’s event is set for November 30, taking place at the Sofitel Fiji Resort & Spa in Nadi.
“This year’s theme, ‘Luxuries of the Orient – Dripping in Pearls,’ will showcase a fashion show featuring seven well-known local designers and stylists,” Vuniwaqa stated. The Style Fiji and PBM show remains dedicated to supporting the Fiji Cancer Society, which focuses on cancer research, early detection, and intervention, especially in rural communities of Western Fiji.
