The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has committed $300,000 for the preliminary phases of a masterplan aimed at developing tourism in Nasaulevu, Nadi, under the Nakovacake Development Trust initiative.
Cathy Marsh, the deputy director general of ADB’s Private Sector Operations Department, emphasized the significance of tourism for Fiji’s economy. She noted that the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) will facilitate collaboration in creating a masterplan for the sustainable development of Nasaulevu.
Marsh described the vision for the masterplan as one that promotes Nasaulevu as an environmentally sustainable and socially inclusive destination, poised to attract future generations of travelers to Fiji for the next 50 years and beyond.
Additionally, ADB has secured funding to engage leading experts from Fiji and around the world to assist in this development process. Marsh indicated their readiness to sign the MOU immediately and to commence work as early as this year, with an initial budget of up to $300,000.
