A woman aged 29 and a man aged 24 are set to appear in court over three separate instances of securing financial advantages by deception using a mobile money transfer app.

The 29-year-old woman, who is implicated in two of the cases, allegedly defrauded victims out of money through the MPaisa app. Fiji Police’s MPaisa task force is investigating these accusations.

In the first incident, the woman from Tavakubu, Lautoka, allegedly transferred $200 from a victim’s MPaisa account without their consent. She is believed to have used this money for personal expenditures.

In the second case, the same woman is accused of having transferred $100 from another victim’s MPaisa account on February 23, 2023, also without consent. She is due to appear today in the Lautoka Magistrates Court.

Separately, a 24-year-old man from Korovuto, Nadi is facing a single charge of obtaining a financial advantage by deception. It’s alleged that he swindled $200 from a person by pretending to be a representative of an Online Loan Investment Grant and demanding a fee to secure it.

When the victim realized this was a scam, they reported the incident. The man is scheduled to appear in the Nadi Magistrates Court today.
