The JP Bayly Trust has made a $20,000 donation to Habitat for Humanity Fiji to assist with housing and community development efforts. Trust chairman Digby Bossley stated that this contribution is aimed at helping disadvantaged Fijians rebuild their lives. He pointed out that many people in Fiji are still living in tents or have lost their homes due to natural disasters, and some cannot afford to construct new houses. This instability can lead to various socioeconomic and health-related challenges.
Bossley expressed their eagerness to support Habitat Fiji in providing housing solutions, emphasizing that through these initiatives, individuals can gain a sense of security and start overcoming poverty. Susan Naidu, the national director of Habitat for Humanity Fiji, mentioned that the Daulomani Home in Lautoka, created during the COVID-19 pandemic, has been offering temporary shelter to homeless individuals and families.
She highlighted that the donation will facilitate access to essential services, including electricity and basic kitchen appliances such as refrigerators, freezers, and stoves. Naidu remarked that the generous donation from the JP Bayly Trust motivates them to continue their mission of building homes, communities, and hope for vulnerable populations in Fiji. She added that each home constructed lays a foundation for families to lead healthier, happier, and dignified lives.
Earlier this year, Habitat for Humanity Fiji and the JP Bayly Trust signed a Memorandum of Understanding to enhance collaborative efforts and support marginalized communities holistically.
