A trough of low pressure is moving over Fiji from the southwest, bringing cloud, rain and a few thunderstorms to parts of the group before it slips south later today. A prevailing northeast to moist easterly wind flow will continue across most islands, keeping conditions unsettled in places while other areas remain largely fine.
The heaviest activity is expected over Kadavu and nearby smaller islands, where occasional rain and a few thunderstorms are likely, with rain easing later today. Cloudy periods with brief showers are forecast for Suva–Nausori, Naitasiri–Rewa–Tailevu–Ra, eastern Macuata and Cakaudrove provinces (including Taveuni and nearby smaller islands), and the Yasawa, Lau and Lomaiviti groups. Elsewhere conditions should be fine apart from isolated afternoon or evening showers. Isolated afternoon or evening thunderstorms are possible in several districts and may bring heavy falls.
Localised heavy falls may lead to flash flooding of low-lying areas, so communities in flood-prone locations should remain vigilant while the trough passes. In addition to heavy downpours, isolated thunderstorms could bring locally gusty winds and brief intense rainfall.
Moderate to fresh northeast winds are expected with moderate to rough seas around most coasts. The outlook for Thursday is for continued cloudy periods with brief showers across many eastern and interior provinces including Navua–Suva–Nausori, Serua–Namosi–Naitasiri, Rewa–Tailevu–Ra, southern Bua, eastern Macuata and Cakaudrove, Taveuni, Lau, Lomaiviti and Kadavu. Elsewhere it will mostly be fine apart from isolated showers; nights will be cool with moderate to fresh easterly winds and moderate to rough seas.
Local temperatures for tomorrow include Navua/Suva/Nausori near 22–29°C, Kadavu around 22–29°C (rising to about 23–30°C on Thursday), and Nadi/Lautoka/Ba near 22–31°C. Northern towns such as Labasa, Savusavu, Nabouwalu and Taveuni can expect cloudy periods with brief showers and isolated thunderstorms, with daytime highs about 29–30°C and nights near 22°C. Rotuma remains under a moist easterly flow — fine apart from brief showers with some showers and isolated thunderstorms possible later today, and temperatures around 23–30°C.
