$106.6m National Budget Allocation Boosts Fiji’s Trade Ministry Aimed at MSME Growth & Economic Stability

The Minister for Trade, Cooperatives and Small Medium Enterprises and Communications, Manoa Kamikamica, has expressed satisfaction at the $106.6 million allocation to his ministry in the 2024-2025 National Budget. The minister commended the budget, stating that it aligns with their objectives and continues the work of nation building.

Kamikamica pointed out that the absence of additional taxes this year would generate stability in the country and would be favourable for the private sector. The Minister stated that his ministry would concentrate on key areas to enhance the economy such as new and outstanding film tax rebates, investment in ease of doing business, the Digital Fiji project, integrated human resource management, the trade enhancement program and the Northern Division development program.

Kamikamica emphasised the need for economic growth by stimulating the country’s economic sectors and the private sector, where his ministry plays a significant role. In a video interview, he also noted a growing interest in small and medium enterprise activities.

Regarding future plans, the minister mentioned collaborations with Google to enhance Fiji’s connectivity, making it a potential technological hub. They are also looking into a commercial-scale agricultural project with Fiji Water to meet local fruit and honey demands.
